CONSULTANCY

The consultancy projects I have been involved with have varied considerably. Their specific details are confidential, but they include:-

  • Problem solving
  • Process mapping
  • Design of Experiments
  • Measurement analysis.
  • Priority setting for SPC.
  • Setting and reviewing company standards.
  • SPC implementation
  • Selection of SPC and other software.
  • Manufacturing problems.
  • Moving from product to process control.
  • Reviewing software and hardware

Every company is different and every company uses SPC for different reasons.

  • Some use it because they recognise its benefits.
  • Some use it to solve a problem.
  • Some do it because their customers demand it.

These latter companies often focus towards the blind production of the charts rather than towards the internal benefits that SPC can bring. Those who take on board SPC without market compulsion tend to achieve greater benefits. What is almost universal, however, is that within a company most people are too busy fighting fires to concentrate on the problem.
An innocent comment from an outsider can often be the key that unlocks the answer.

Companies seem obsessed with collecting data: sometimes they forget why they are collecting it; often they don't know what to do with it when they have it. Every process is capable of improvement. To make improvements you don't need guesswork, you need objective analysis from the process, so that you can make the right decisions. SPC is one of the tools that can give you this. If you need help in any aspect of SPC implementation, or advice on other statistics that can be used in the pursuit of improved quality, please contact me.

A Client List of those companies that I have already helped is available.
